Pisces in the tarot

Pisces closes the zodiac, the last of winter before the year begins again. It is mutable water — dreamy, compassionate, porous, drawn to what cannot be seen. In the cards it is The Moon, the path lit by something that shifts, and the last three Cups: walking away, the wish granted, and the rainbow over the household.

The Moon

Pisces belongs to The Moon, card XVIII of the major arcana — illusion, dream, fear. It is the card to choose for someone born under Pisces, if you want a card to stand for them in a reading.

Its ruling planet, Jupiter, is Wheel of Fortune: growth, fortune, generosity.

The three decans

The ten-day slices of Pisces are three Cups, the suit of water. If your birthday falls in one, that card is yours.

• Eight of Cups — 19–28 February, the first decan: Saturn in Pisces. departure, seeking deeper meaning, leaving the good for the true.
• Nine of Cups — 1–10 March, the second decan: Jupiter in Pisces. contentment, satisfaction, gratitude.
• Ten of Cups — 11–20 March, the third decan: Mars in Pisces. harmony, family, emotional fulfilment.

The court

Two court cards share Pisces. The Knight of Cups — fire of water — rules its first twenty degrees, coming in from Aquarius (9 February – 10 March). The Queen of Wands — water of fire — takes its last ten and carries on into Aries (11 March – 9 April).
