Gemini in the tarot

Gemini is the end of spring, when everything is in motion and talking. It is mutable air — quick, clever, restless, drawn to the next idea before the last one is finished. In the cards it is The Lovers, a choice between two, and the last three Swords, where the mind's restlessness becomes a cage, a sleepless night and an ending.

The Lovers

Gemini belongs to The Lovers, card VI of the major arcana — union, alignment of values, being truly seen. It is the card to choose for someone born under Gemini, if you want a card to stand for them in a reading.

Its ruling planet, Mercury, is The Magician: thought, speech, exchange.

The three decans

The ten-day slices of Gemini are three Swords, the suit of air. If your birthday falls in one, that card is yours.

• Eight of Swords — 21–30 May, the first decan: Jupiter in Gemini. restriction, feeling trapped, a prison of the mind.
• Nine of Swords — 31 May – 10 June, the second decan: Mars in Gemini. anxiety, nightmares, worry.
• Ten of Swords — 11–20 June, the third decan: the Sun in Gemini. painful ending, betrayal, rock bottom.

Two court cards share Gemini. The Knight of Swords — fire of air — rules its first twenty degrees, coming in from Taurus (11 May – 10 June). The Queen of Cups — water of water — takes its last ten and carries on into Cancer (11 June – 11 July).
